When Mary Brotherton and her two fellow founding volunteers established their nonprofit organization, they generated its name, which is an acronym, by thinking about those things which mean the most to them: Philanthropy, Education, Action, Compassion, Evolution, Charity, Optimism, Responsibility, and Enthusiasm. Hence, PEACECORE. Designated a 501(c)3 educational public charity last year, PEACECORE’s work is now completed by 30 writers and 40 additional volunteers in 15 countries via the vehicles of bUneke Magazine (“bUneke” = “be unique”), the bUneke Unscripted podcast, and the Coffee or Tea? web series.

“We highlight world changers and difference makers, whether they are individuals, volunteers at nonprofits, or CEOs in for-profit businesses that have a philanthropic outlook,” Mary says. “When we first started this project, we thought we’d donate a portion of our profits to a charity, but couldn’t narrow our list down below 36 charities we wanted to support. That’s when we decided to incorporate as a nonprofit ourselves so that instead of helping one or two organizations, we will be able to impact many thousands over the course of the organization’s lifetime.”

Because PEACECORE incorporates the voices of individuals from 15 different countries into their work, they are able to provide, as Mary says, “a world view into how others are tackling some important topics in our world such as sustainability, eco-friendly products, and hunger.” Why not spend a bit of our time learning about the people and organizations changing the world for the better? In their April 2019 issue of bUneke Magazine, PEACECORE highlights the work of each of their 2019 “b The Change Awards” winners, individuals who work tirelessly to make the world a better place for people, animals, and the environment.

We were gleefully surprised to find that another PLAE-It-Forward ambassador, Justin Sather, was also featured in April’s issue of bUneke!
