Pixie Park + CODE GIVE277

Holly and her family had just moved to Marin when their eldest child, Ellie, was 15 months old. Holly was newly pregnant with her second child and wanted to find a safe, easy place to take Ellie to play outside. She joined Pixie Park on the recommendation of a neighbor and was hooked. The lovely enclosed playground was a lifesaver because Holly didn't have to worry about Ellie running away or into the street - so much so that even when she was nine months pregnant Holly continued to feel comfortable bringing Ellie there.

After her son Tate was born, Holly found refuge in the shade of Pixie Park’s trees to nurse her newborn while Ellie played. Because the park is specifically for kids ages six and under, Ellie had great freedom to explore and develop confidence without feeling intimidated by older and bigger children. Additionally, Holly met an incredible community of moms and dads who became her friends and support system. She became involved in the board because she saw how much the park and its community helped young families from all parts of Marin and she wanted to give back and help keep Pixie Park alive for generations of families to come

Pixie Park was founded 66 years ago by Marin pioneer Elizabeth Terwilliger. It was designed by the famed landscape architect Robert Royston and from its inception has been 100% run by parent volunteers. Ellie and her family benefited from the community of parents who came before them and devoted themselves to creating and sustaining a safe and creative space for their kids to play, so it in keeping with that tradition that Holly wants to do whatever she can to keep this spirit alive. That is why she, along with a team of enthusiastic parents, spearheaded a $400,000 fundraising campaign to renovate the park and keep it thriving for years to come. Those funds will cover the costs of making the park ADA accessible, building a new playhouse, shoring up the hillside, replacing walkways, and reclaiming the original spirit of the park. Do these sound like gifts you would like to give to future generations of young children and budding families?
